17 Degrees is too cold for most people to accomplish even the most mundane of daily tasks. Slater's list of chores happens to include riding bikes no matter how frigid the weather(and convincing others to join in). The beauty of the low temps is twofold; the jumps are frozen solid and faster than a buttered Porsche, and the local kiddos are locked away inside playing Wii or something, leaving the trails clean and quiet.

Red Bull Rampage

This Saturday is the day we get to watch the worlds craziest huck it big time off tall things at fast speeds. The Red Bull Rampage's return has got a lot of people excited. This is an event where we have seen different disciplines conquer, racers and huckers unite. Inject some of new blood of racer and some new blood of tailwhippin freeriders and we are sure to have one hell of an explosive event. Freecaster will be bringing you lots of video from the event and we are sure that the world wide web will be full of pictures of Hucker McNasty doing inverted red robins off the biggest drops! You remember that bad show "Pacific Blue"

Well TAG does and if you don't then consider yourself lucky. Looks like Tag thinks that us bike people only have a 30 second memory. They are truly trying to reinvent the wheel.

Mount 7 Psychosis was today

We may be in Whistler but we have not totally forgotten about you guys. The Mount Seven Psychosis race took place today in Golden, British Columbia. This is the tenth year and the final year for the epic insanity. In a surprising win Aussie pinner Chris Kovarik pulled a new course record with a time of 12:35.14 beating top riders such as Tyler Morland, Andrew Mitchell and last years winner Sam Hill. If you have not heard or seen this race before check out this vid from the latest video from the Collective entitled "Seasons."

Loose ends...

For those of you who have not seen the trails at Lonnie Paxton's house, they are supreme! Heath Pinter and Lonnie have been busy little beavers sculpting huge hips and transfers with long run ins. Some people drink green beer and whiskey (David) and others boost the lip. Check out the vid. Chase Hawk is crazy, high speed, brakeless!



Claire Buchar received her new Intense Socom with a kickin paint job. Translucent brass finish over the raw metal, will it be available to the regular customer? WideOPEN has the details. Her bed buddy Chris Kovarik pulled the overall win at the Fontana Series. He won every race of the series with the exception of the last. He had sprained or twisted or tweaked his ankle a few days before the race and did not place as well as the other races. The point is, he still raced.

Gary "The Flipper" Perkins is one hell of a photographer. He covers the World Cup circuit and his images grace the pages of all the big magazines. One of his newer projects is entitled "My Bike", highlighting how the bicycle effects our lives from work to play. Take a gander.

Americans love their guns. Although it may be a controversial issue to some there is no denying the fact that we love bustin caps. Kyle Cassidy feels the need to document these people in their homes. The pictures speak for themselves.

W.F.O. Trailer 3

Alex Rankin stepped into the moto world with this video. This is the third trailer that has the tune "To Kill a Dead Man" from Portishead. Somber music for some spectacular footage. The section highlighting the MXDN is just amazing to see. To have seen it in person would have been even better.

Best line: "geez you gotta set the bikes up like the yanks..."

Parenting 101

Is your child a drug addict, does he or she use alcohol? Does your child worship Satan? Is your child a tagger? Well with the help of this new diagram you can certainly be able to figure out the latter. This illustration was released by the Santa Ana Police Department. They are trying to get a handle on all the miscreant graffiti popping up around town. Look carefully and study the diagram, I never knew that I was a tagger. Now I can be honest with myself and my love for hoodies and come clean. Other tips include:

Your child has large quantities of “Hello My Name Is” stickers, priority mail stickers, or number or letter stickers. These stickers may have drawings or a tagging moniker written on them. These stickers are used to “slap tag.” They are slapped upon a surface and are difficult to remove and generally leave a residue.

Your child has or carries a black artist notebook that contains tagging or drawings. These books are called “bibles” or “piece books.”

On a side note, in South Baltimore a "tagger" has orange and black stripes and lives in the jungle.

Us and Them

Good guy, Rich Wilson sent us over some info on the new BMX flick entitled "Us and Them" The video is superbly shot and edited, displaying some clever angles and tricks wrapped in an exquisitely designed package. Trials star Eddie Tongue makes himself seen for a part and monster rider Javier Ortega has one of the more memorable sections shot in Spain.  The trailer is littered with some gnarly crashes and if that is any kind of hint as to the trickery that is attempted, it will be a blast to watch.



Other junk brought to our attention, Atomic Zombie by is an outfit that knows how to go to far. 

Lopes on Ibis for 2008

It has just been announced that Brian Lopes will be riding for Ibis this upcoming season. Yes, thats right Ibis. Insiders at Ibis say they have been working with him to help develop the brand in the race market. They look forward to working with him and having his years of experience on hand. Will they make a BL signature bike? They have been utilizing the DW-Link on their frames and it will certainly be interesting to see Brian riding a new bike, specially one that has connotations of being a light weight, high end, boutique brand.

Dejavu?

I am constantly amazed at all the companies that produce some of the most innovative and advanced products available. They burn the midnight oil to solve some of the more pressing issues that we encounter on these bikes of ours. The chainguide in particular has come along way. Many companies have come and gone and our jaded memories are filled with these products. The spotlight and focus has shifted from company to company, AC, Mr. Dirt, MRP, E13 and Gamut are a few of those popular names. Lets face it as new products are devised and created many companies are quick to jump on the wave of success of a competitor and rake in some profits for themselves, such is business. Imitation is the biggest form of flattery? That’s what they say at least.
There is no question that in the pursuit of building the most efficient component possible engineers are bound to travel down the same path and that each answer to the problem will at times be very similar. One brand will adopt characteristics of another brands solution, which can be seen as a polite nod to the fellow engineer and or designer. That is an ever-fine line that gets crossed quite often. Enter patent law, a quagmire of the kings English that only the most seasoned esquire can decipher. He also charges by the hour, making the pursuit of justice an expensive one. So I ask, when have they gone too far?

Brooklyn keep'in it fresh!

The Brooklyn Machine Works cats have been hard at work lately. They are working on a new DH bike based off of the newly popular SR6 platform. It seems as if Specialized is in the market for some new blood. The yanks at Cannondale aren't having it. There immediate response had some bite but the more thought out, public response is sweetly sinister. Check out the cold sting here.

Nitro Circus "Thrillbillies"

The East Coast is home to much of the history of this country. It also happens to be the home of Travis Pastrana. As most of you should know Pastrana is a MX phenom and Freestyle pioneer.
He has dabbled in rally cars and monster trucks and even film making. The Nitro Circus series of films documents all the bad decisions one can make with a throttle. Pastrana friend and TractionMag associate Jim Dechamp put us on a very elite list to help ring in the newest film "Thrillbillies. The premier is this Sunday in Annapolis, Maryland and if you are in the area and need an adrenaline fix, you now where to get it. Full report and insane party pics to come.
